There were four further victories for British athletes on the second day of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.

After taking a year away from competitive racing in 2018, there was a welcome return to the track for Paul Blake (coach: Rob Ellchuk) in the T36 800m. The Paralympic silver medallist took command of the race of three athletes, crossing the line in 2:10:71. With the 400m to come on Wednesday, it was a solid return to action for the Bath-based athlete.

Following her victory over the 200m on Sunday, Maria Lyle (Jamie Bowie) powered through windy conditions to win the T35/36 100m, in a time of 14.98 (-2.6 m/s).

Facing an even stronger headwind, Sophie Hahn (Leon Baptiste) earned victory in the mixed T37/T38 100m, recording a time of 13.52 (-3.3 m/s) in her first race of the season.

Meanwhile, after his 100m yesterday, Andrew Small (Rick Hoskins) won the T33 800m in 2:21.68, wrapping up the British involvement on the track for day two.

With his first attempt in the F32 club throw competition, Stephen Miller (Ros Miller) threw a mark of 30.69 metres which was ultimately the best of his series. It was an improvement from his 30.18m effort at the Sharjah meeting last week, and he also bagged second place behind Algeria’s Lahouari Bahlaz who won with a best of 34.17 metres.

Also in the field, Conor O’Hare (Alison O’Riordan) produced a throw of 7.90m in the F35/36 shot put, a season’s best for the youngster. A mark of 7.84 metres added to his series as he placed fifth overall.
