GB Highlights From Berlin Golden League

17 September 2007

Britain’s Osaka heroes Christine Ohuruogu (Newham & Essex Beagles) and Nicola Sanders (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) took second and third in the 400m at the final IAAF Golden League meeting of the season on Sunday, behind the impressive Sanya Richards.

The American took a half share of the one million dollar Golden League jackpot in Berlin after lowering her season’s best to 49.27 to secure her sixth straight victory.

Ohuruogu and Sanders, who won World Championship gold and silver over one lap last month, chased Richards hard but could not catch her in the home straight.

The World Champion ran 50.40, edging Sanders into third with a time of 50.70. The British pair qualified for the IAAF World Athletics final in Stuttgart, Germany, this weekend.

Other results from British athletes in Berlin included:

Marlon Devonish (Coventry Godiva) also qualified for Stuttgart after coming an impressive second in the 100m in 10.15 behind Norwegian Jaysuma Saidy Ndure.

Rikki Fifton (Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets) the 22-year-old European Under 23 200m bronze medallist, ran a superb personal best of 10.17 to come third behind Devonish. Mark Lewis-Francis (Birchfield Harriers) came ninth in 10.45.

Montel Douglas (Blackheath & Bromley) came eighth in women’s 100m with a time of 11.45.
