GB Highlights From Golden League

Mo Farah (Newham & Essex) further improved his 5000m best and solidified his place in UK Endurance history with 13.07.00 at the Memorial Van Damme meeting in Brussels on Friday night. He finished 10th in a strong field in a race won by Sileshi Sihine of Ethiopia in 12.50.16

 

Mo’s time beats the 13.09.40 he set in Heusden, Belgium in July 2006.

 

Here is a round up of the rest of the Brits and their performances at last night’s Memorial Van Damme meeting in Brussels:

 

100m: Marlon Devonish (Coventry Godiva) finished 4th in 10.16 in another race won by Asafa Powell.

 

1500m: Andy Baddeley (Harrow) was fifth in 3.35.94 in a race won by Daniel Komen in 3.32.67

 

110mH: Andy Turner (Sale) was 7th in 13.55

 

400m: Nicola Sanders (WSEH) was an impressive second in 50.34 but the race was won by Sanya Richards in 49.29.

 

In the mile, UK trials silver medallist Charlene Thomas (Wakefield) and the ever progressing Steph Twell (AFD) fresh from running a Beijing qualifier in Rieti last weekend were 10th and 11th in 4.27.95 and 4.28.62. Twell’s time is a UK age 18 record for the distance beating Zola Budd’s best mark of 4:30.7.

 

2 miles: Helen Clitheroe (Preston) finished 6th in 9.38.39 as Merert Defar clocked 8.58.58 setting a new World Record.
