Gb & Ni Team Changes For Gateshead

18 June 2013

British Athletics has today confirmed the following team changes for the European Athletics Team Championships in Gateshead on 22-23 June 2013.

Robbie Grabarz (Fayyaz Ahmed) has had to withdraw as a precautionary measure for a knee injury and will be replaced by Tom Parsons (Aston Moore), whilst Steve Lewis (Scott Simpson/Dan Pfaff) will also miss the competition to undergo treatment to a shin injury and is replaced by Andrew Sutcliffe (Julien Raffalli Ebezant)

Eilish McColgan (Liz McColgan) has pulled out with a calf niggle meaning Lennie Waite (Mick Woods) will join the GB & NI team, and Freya Jones (Don Babbit) has opted to remain in the USA but will be replaced by top-ranked javelin thrower Izzy Jeffs (David Parker).

British Athletics Head Coach Peter Eriksson said:

“Whilst it is disappointing to lose some great athletes from the team, with every disappointment comes an opportunity. Tom (Parsons) is showing a great return to form and it is good to see him back competing for Great Britiain, whilst Andrew (Sutcliffe) is also looking good.

“It is also a good opportunity for Lennie and Izzy to make their mark at this level in front of the home crowd and I am happy that the athletes stepping in can bring home the points needed to have a successful weekend.”
