Gb & Ni Team For Iau World 100km Championships Selected

12 August 2014

British Athletics has named a team of four men and five women to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the IAU 100km World Championships being held in Doha, Qatar, on 21 November 2014.

The men’s team will be led by 40 year old Steve Way, who set a marathon personal best of 2:15:16 en route to finishing tenth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow at the end of last month.

He is the reigning national 100km champion having run a personal best 6:19:20 in Gravesend in May and will have GB & NI’s first gold medal since 1999 in his sights, along with the world record of 6:13:13.

Way will be joined by Paul Martelletti, who ran 6:57:22 for 100km in Belfast this year. The 35 year old has an impressive marathon best of 2:16:49, won the national 50km title in 2012 and finished third in the IAU World Trophy 50km in the same year.

Ellie Greenwood will travel to Qatar having become the first ever British woman to win the Comrades Marathon earlier this year and will look to add to the world 100km title she won back in 2010.

Jo Zakrewski was a world 100km silver medallist in the 2011 staging of this event and showed good recent form as she finished 14th in the Commonwealth Games Marathon last night.

Sue Harrison is one of the other leading names in the GB & NI women’s team. The 43 year old was third in the 2011 European100km Championships and boasts a 100km personal best of 7:48:12 from the 2013 European Championships.
