Gb & Ni Team Set For Iau 24 Hour World & Europeanchamps

25 February 2014

British Athletics has today announced the Great Britain & Northern Ireland for the IAU 24 Hour World and European Championships held in Pilzen, Czech Republic, on 21-22 June.

A ten-strong team of British ultra-distance runners will line up in the Czech city as they attempt to cover the furthest distance over the 24-hour period.

Sharon Law will look to improve on her eighth place finish from 2013 as one of six females selected to pull on a GB & NI vest.  The Scottish record holder will be joined by Emily Gelder, who won bronze at the event in 2012. Dulwich athlete Gelder currently sits at number two on the all-time list with a distance of 238.87km and will have that mark in mind come June.

Making his debut at the championships, British hopes in the men’s race are led by Marco Consani, who managed 248.1km last season in his first 24h race. Steve Holyoak, GB & NI’s top male from 2013 will line up again as one of three other male athletes. The Road Runners Club athlete will want to better his 246.2km distance which was good enough to take twelfth place last year.
