20 July 2009

First place on the medal table, 13 gold medals and three world records were the result of an outstanding performance by the Great Britain team at the IWAS Junior World Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland over the weekend.

Every member of the GB party of eight returned with a medal, led by Michael Bushell and Daniel Lucker who claimed four golds apiece as the team headed the medal table with 13 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze, leaving the likes of Russia, USA, Germany and Australia well adrift.

U23 athlete Bushell was unbeaten in the T53 class, taking gold in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m, the first two in new junior world records of 15.55 and 30.01 respectively. U18 Lucker competed in the T%4 class and won gold in the 100m, 200m, 1500m and 5000m as well as taking silver in the 400m and 800m for an incredible medal haul of six.

U18 thrower Sean Clare won gold in the F40 shot with a junior world record of 8.73m, he then added bronze in the F40 discus with 21.32m.
