Greene Returns To Blomkvist

15 May 2015

2011 World 400m champion Dai Greene has returned to former coach Benke Blomkvist, based at Loughborough’s National Performance Institute.

It will be familiar territory for the 29 year old, who was coached by Blomkvist until 2009 in Cardiff where he was working as a senior coach for Welsh Athletics before he returned to his native Scandinavia. Greene will now have his sights set on making the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the IAAF World Championships in Beijing this August.

Greene said: “I owe a debt of gratitude to Malcolm (Arnold) for his guidance that saw me win gold in Daegu four years ago and I have tremendous respect for him as a person and a coach.

“I’m really looking forward to be back working with Benke. He is someone that took me to the next level of my athletics career, and I hope that I see another upward curve in my performance.

“This is a big summer for me and indeed a big few years with Beijing, Rio and London 2017 all on the horizon. I feel with my new set up, I can get amongst the world’s best 400m hurdlers and back up challenging for the medal positions.”

Blomkvist will also be working with European and Commonwealth silver medallist William Sharman and World Junior bronze medallist David Omoregie.
