HAHN AND COCKROFT AMONG THE ENTRANTS FOR THE 2022 COVENTRY SPRING MEETING

The Coventry Spring Meeting will take place at the University of Warwick track this weekend (23-24 April) following the success of the 2021 event.

The event – World Para Athletics approved for World Rankings – provides a competition opportunity for domestic and international participants, with many targeting standard for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this summer.

Paralympic champions Sophie Hahn (Leon Baptiste, Charnwood) and Hannah Cockroft (Jenni Banks, Leeds) are among the athletes in the fields assembled for the meeting.

Hahn – who equalled her world record on her way to T38 100m gold in Tokyo last year – will race in the ambulant 100m in Coventry with fellow entrants for the mixed classification event including Paralympians Kadeena Cox (Joe McDonnell, Sale Harriers Manchester), Sophie Kamlish (Rob Ellchuk, Bristol & West) and Hetty Bartlett (Denis Costello, City of Norwich).

Cockroft – a seven-time Paralympic champion – is among the entrants in the wheelchair 100m and 400m. The Yorkshire-born athlete added T34 100m and 800m gold in Japan last year and following a strong start to her campaign in Dubai earlier this year, she will return to the track on Saturday.

Among the other notable entries in the women’s wheelchair events include five-time Paralympic medallist Kare Adenegan (Job King, Coventry) [100m], 2020 Paralympic silver and bronze medallist in the T53 100m and 400m, Sammi Kinghorn (Rodger Harkins, Red Star) [100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m], and Paralympian Melanie Woods (Rodger Harkins, Red Star) (100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m).

T33 100m Paralympic champion Andrew Small (Rick Hoskins, Stockport) competes over 100m, 400m and 800m, while silver medallist from Tokyo Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins, Kirkby) takes to the track in the wheelchair 400m and 1500m.

World medallists Kayleigh Haggo (John Owens, Ayr Seaforth), Ellie Simpson (Jessica Davidson, Chesterfield) and Rafi Solaiman (Philip Fleetwood, Charnwood) will compete in the frame-running events (100m and 400m), while Paralympic T20 400m bronze medallist, Columba Blango (Chris Zah, Shaftesbury Barnet), leads the entries for the men’s ambulant 400m.

F38 discus European bronze medallist Emily Stewart (Richard Kaufman, Gateshead) goes in the women’s ambulant discus, while fellow Gateshead athlete, six-time Paralympian Stephen Miller (Ros Miller) competes in the club throw, while Bethan Griffiths (Cheltenham) and Kirsty Soutar (John Owens, Red Star) compete in the women’s event.
