British Athletics have today announced David Harmer has joined the British Athletics Endurance Programme as a National Performance Institute Assistant Coach.

Harmer’s role will be to undertake a new project in collaboration with Nike Running, as well providing coaching support at the National Performance Institute in Loughborough.

The 31-year-old, who hails from Maidstone, joins the endurance programme from the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs, where he was Head Women’s Cross Country Coach and Co–Head Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Coach.

Harmer will be working with Head of Endurance Barry Fudge, National Institute Coach Rob Denmark, the Accelerated Coach Development Programme including Jon Bigg as well as liaising with the programme’s key advisors Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe.

The British Athletics Endurance Programme is geared towards podium success at Olympic and world level and enables British coaches the chance to up-skill and develop alongside some of the world’s best coaching set-ups such as Nike’s Oregon Project.

“I’ve been watching the rise of British endurance running over the last few years and I’m so excited to join the team at British Athletics,” said Harmer.

“I’ve learnt a lot during my time in Colorado and I’m ready to take on the challenge of seeing more British endurance athletes on the podium at a world level.”

Barry Fudge, Head of Endurance, said: “We are really pleased to have David join the endurance programme.

“It’s a really exciting time for the programme and David will be significantly involved in the new partnership with Nike Running.

“David will add significant value to the National Performance Institute and to the athletes who are supported by the endurance programme.”
