Weekend results:

 

Harry Aikines Aryeetey (Sutton & District) and Ashlee Nelson (Stoke) showed impressive sprint form in their first major competitions of the season clocking big personal bests at the Pavia meet in Italy.

 

Aikines Aryeety, in his first 100m race since 2006 smashed his PB and ran inside the Olympic A qualifier with 10.18 (1.4) in qualifying for the 100m final. He then won the final with 10.20 ahead of Leon Baptiste (Enfield & Haringey) 10.31 and James Dasaolu (Croydon Harriers) 10.38.

 

Meanwhile, Nelson won her heat with 11.51 and continued to win the final with 11.37 (+2.0), inside the Olympic B standard for 100m.

Tyrone Edgar (Newham & Essex)ran a swift 10.11 (1.4) for 2nd place in race 4 at California Relays in Modesto this weekend.

County Championship highlights

 

Jade Johnson (Herne Hill) opened her long jump season with 6.56m in Surrey Championships equalling her best leap from last year.

 

Freya Jones (Team Southampton) again broke the Under 15 Girls Javelin record in the Hampshire Champs with 42.29m.

 

Power of 10 has more than 4,000 County performances looged from this weekend – highlights of which can be seen in the On Target Section.

 

 

 

Qatar Athletics Super Grand Prix – Friday 9 May

 

British number one Andy Turner (Sale Harriers) was third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.41 as David Oliver of the USA won with a world leading mark of 12.95

 

Also on track, Hatti Dean (Hallamshire) was ninth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9.54.99 as Australia’s Donna MacFarlane won in 9min 31.47sec.

European triple jump silver medallist Nathan Douglas (Oxford City) was fourth with a distance of 16.73metres as Grenadian Randy Lewis won the event with a personal best of 17.44m.
