Highgate Harriers To Host British 10,000m Trials

21 January 2014

British Athletics has announced that the 10,000m trials for the 2014 European Championships, European Cup 10,000m and IAAF World Junior Championships will take place at the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs on Saturday 10 May 2014.

Taking place at the Parliament Hill Athletics Track in London, the event will also incorporate the England Championships.

British Athletics Head of Endurance Barry Fudge believes that staging the 10,000m trials for the 2014 major championships at Highgate will give British athletes the best chance of qualification.

He said: “With good 10,000m opportunities hard to come by, I’m sure that this event will give our endurance athletes the best possible chance of running quick times over the distance and qualifying for this summer’s major championships.

“The results of last year’s event show that this is a great opportunity for endurance runners to set qualifying times for summer championships and I anticipate highly competitive races taking place.”

Race organiser Ben Pochee said: “Highgate Harriers and myself welcome the incorporation of the British 10,000m Championships into our annual event. This year we aim to turn up the volume on 25 lap inspiration for racing PB hunters, supporters and young athletes alike, so in addition to being European Championship trials our Men’s & Women’s ‘A’ races will now also provide a unique aspirational platform to showcase the event to a target rich audience”

The 10,000m will be held under UKA rules with target pacemakers, chip timing and music. As per UKA rules, it will be restricted to under 20 age groups and above.
