A number of British athletes will head out to Lausanne tonight for the eighth stage of the IAAF Diamond League.

Less than a week after her victory at the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix – Birmingham, Olympic silver medallist Christine Ohuruogu (coach: Lloyd Cowan) will go head-to-head once again in the 400m with current Diamond Race leader Amantle Montsho. Ohuruogu produced a late surge on the home straight in Birmingham to inflict the first defeat in five races on the Botswanan in this season’s IAAF Diamond League. The 29 year old will also face Natasha Hastings, Novlene Williams-Mills and Francena McCorory, all of whom have run faster in 2013 than the 2008 Olympic champion.

Fresh from a 10.17 personal best in the 100m in Birmingham last weekend, James Ellington (Rana Reider) will step back up to the 200m, where he will face a tough field, which includes four sub-20 second runners in Churandy Martina, Jason Young, Isiah Young and Jaysuma Saidy Ndure.

After running a season’s best of 12.72 to finish third in the 100m hurdles at the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix – Birmingham, Tiffany Porter (Reider) will face the three medallists from last summer’s Olympic Games – Sally Pearson, Dawn Harper-Nelson and Kellie Wells.

Olympic bronze medallist Robbie Grabarz (Fuzz Ahmed) also secured a season’s best of 2.31m last weekend and will look to close the gap on current Diamond Race leader Bohdan Bondarenko, who equalled the meeting record of 2.36m to win in Birmingham.

Andrew Osagie (Craig Winrow), another third place finisher at the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix – Birmingham, will face another tough test as he goes head-to-head with World Indoor Champion and current Diamond Race leader Mohammad Aman in Lausanne.

British long jump record holder Shara Proctor (Reider) will travel to Switzerland with a season’s best of 6.91m, and the 24 year old will be wary of the challenge posed by Olympic gold medallist Brittney Reese, who has already jumped out to 7.25m this season.

One of the most intriguing battles tonight will be the men’s pole vault, as Steve Lewis (Dan Pfaff, Scott Simpson) lines up against the three Olympic medallists from London 2012 in Renaud Lavillenie, Bjorn Otto and Raphael Holzdeppe.

Rebecca Weston (Peter Mullervy) and Olivia Sadler (Nicole Blood) complete the British contingent out in Lausanne, as the duo take to the track for the U20 1500m.
