Mo Farah (coach: Alberto Salazar) set a new British and European 1500m record of 3:28.81 as he finished second to Asbel Kiprop at the Monaco leg of the IAAF Diamond League.

Farah narrowly lost out to Kenyan Kiprop, whose 3:27.72 was a new 2013 world leading time, but broke Steve Cram’s 28 year old British record.

Shara Proctor (Rana Reider) finished third in the women’s long jump as she set a best mark of 6.74m, 20cm short of her season’s best. Blessing Okagbare of Nigeria broke her personal best as she won with a leap of 7.04m, six centimetres clear of Russia’s Darya Klishina.

Tiffany Porter (Reider) finished fourth in the 100m hurdles in 12.70. An extremely tight race was won by Queen Harrison in 12.64 as world and Olympic champion Sally Pearson of Australia was fifth in 12.75.

Anyika Onuora (Reider) finished sixth in the women’s 400m in a time of 51.63, less than three tenths away from the personal best she set earlier this month. The race was won by Amantle Montsho of Botswana with a national record 49.33, the fastest time in the world this year.

Steve Lewis (Dan Pfaff) set a new season’s best of 5.70m as he finished sixth in the men’s pole vault. Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie of France cleared a huge 5.96m.

In the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, Eilish McColgan (Liz McColgan) crossed the line in 9:45.72 to finish fifth. Milcah Chemos of Kenya took the victory in a meeting record 9:14.16.

Chris Thompson (Mark Rowland) finished 15th in the men’s 5,000m with a time of 13:40.26. Edwin Soi won his second Diamond League race of the summer as he took victory in a world leading 12:51.35.
