Inspiration At SPAR Conference

24 September 2007

Who better to share their wisdom about sprint athletics than former Director of Coaching of the British Athletics Federation, Frank Dick, and Olympic medallist Jason Gardener. Both will speak at the SPAR Speed Conference on Saturday 6 October.

Gardener, who won gold in the 4 x 100m at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, will present, ‘How to develop the acceleration phase of an athlete,’ a highly relevant topic for those involved with speed events.

Dick, an athletics coaching great who is also a widely renowned motivational speaker, will focus his presentation on a ‘four-year training plan for speed athletes’.

The conference held at Bath University, organised by UK Athletics, is part of a long-term vision to ensure a smooth transition to GB&NI team level for athletes on a performance pathway that can result in Great Britain & Northern Ireland having three athletes in all speed events for the 2012 London Olympics.

To enable this to happen conferences are held to ensure the depth of knowledge and skills and the quality of coaching in all sprint disciplines is addressed.
