INTERNATIONAL MEDALLISTS DESCEND ON NOTTWIL FOR WORLD PARA ATHLETICS GRAND PRIX

Nottwil, Switzerland will once again host the World Para Athletics Grand Prix from Friday to Sunday with a host of British wheelchair athletes travelling to the well-renowned competition.

A staple of the para athletics calendar, Nottwil has seen several significant performances in recent years, including world records and personal bests for British athletes who make the journey.

Following a world record in the T54 800m at this event last year, Richard Chiassaro (Jenni Banks; Harlow) returns to the track to propel his 2019 season forward. The record time of 1:30.35 – since bettered by America’s Daniel Romanchuk – was a breakthrough moment for the Harlow athlete over the distance.

He joins Dillon Labrooy (Jenny Archer; Weir Archer Academy) and Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins; Kirkby AC) in the men’s T54 events, with Romanchuk (USA) and the decorated Marcel Hug (SUI) are also on the entry lists, while Lizzie Williams (Worthing) goes in the women’s equivalent.

Hannah Cockroft (Jenni Banks; Halifax) opened her season in Stoke Mandeville with some solid performances last weekend, and will use the event as essential preparation for a season which includes the World Championships later in November. The ten-time world champion competes over distances from 100m to 800m over the three days.

2018 European champion Harri Jenkins (Anthony Hughes; DSW Academy) lines-up in the T33 100m alongside Paralympic and world medallist Andrew Small (Rick Hoskins; Stockport).

In the women’s T33 events, a trio of athletes will be in action including Emma Alexander (Richard Chiassaro; Harlow), Olivia Gallagher (Jenny Archer; Weir Archer Academy) and Yasmin Somers (Job King; Harlow).

Mo Jomni (Jenny Archer; Weir Archer Academy) and Mickey Bushell (Rick Hoskins; Birchfield) will both compete in the T53 100m, 200m and 400m while T34 800m world bronze medallist Isaac Towers (Peter Wyman; Kirkby AC) focuses on distances from 200m up to 1500m.
