28 February 2013

Four British athletes have been named on the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Ones to Watch list, which was revealed today. The list consists of athletes identified as top prospects ahead of the 2013 IPC Athletics World Championships which take place later this year in Lyon, France.

The Ones to Watch initiative identifies some of the top athletes around the world who are medal contenders in their events in order to help raise their profiles in the lead-up to the World Championships and other major events.

Jonnie Peacock (coach: Dan Pfaff), David Weir (Jenny Archer), Hannah Cockroft (Peter Eriksson) and Dan Greaves (Jim Edwards) are amongst the 35 athletes named on a list that also includes international athletes such as London 2012 gold medallists Alan Oliveira, Johanna Benson, Marlou van Rhijn and Tatyana McFadden.

All four athletes competed at the Paralympic Games in front of 80,000 spectators at London’s Olympic Stadium last summer. Peacock won a thrilling 100m T44 race, Weir won four golds in the T54 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m and marathon events, Cockroft won double-gold in the T34 100m and 200m and Greaves won silver in the F44 discus.
