IWAS Junior Championships - Final Day

Another 10 medals were added to the medal tally on the final day of action at a successful IWAS Junior Championships at Stoke Mandeville for the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team.

Polly Maton (coach: Colin Baross) ended the competition with her third gold medal, this time in the T46 100m. She ran a new personal best of 13.45 to complete a memorable week for the fourteen year old athlete after victories in the 200m and long jump. Hollie Arnold (Anthony Hughes) secured her second gold medal of the championships in the F46 javelin with a throw of 38.25m. Millie Forest (Robert Haliwell) improved upon the silver medal she won in the discus on day two and won the gold in the F37 shot put with a throw of 6.52m. Sheikh Sheikh (Jenny Archer) was victorious in the T54 100m to add to his bronze in the 200m. The Weir Archer academy athlete set a new lifetime best in his heat of 15.31 and this gave him the confidence to win the gold in a time of 15.62 in the final.

Three silvers were added to the list of honours for the GB & NI squad on day four. Kyle Powell (Ryan Freckleton) ran impressively in the T45 100m final as he won the silver medal in a new European record of 11.46. James Arnott (Stephen Endacott) finished behind in the bronze medal position in the T46 category. The 13 year old, Kare Adenegan (Job King) added a third medal to her haul with silver in the T34 100m. The Coventry athlete dipped under twenty seconds for the first time to achieve a new personal best of 19.44. Anna Nicholson (Claire Buckle) also grabbed silver in the F36 shot put with a throw of 5.81m.

Toby Gold (Jenny Archer) earned his third bronze medal of the championships in the T33 100m breaking his lifetime best considerably with a time of 17.57. Jamie Carter (Jenny Archer) and Nathan Blackie (Martin Cook) finished in fourth and fifth with times of 17.52 and 18.29 respectively. Amy Carr (Rick Betts) rounded off the championships with a bronze in the T37 100m to take up the total medal tally for GB & NI to 36 medals.  In the 100m events, Julie Rogers was fifth in the T42 100m in 17.74. Shaun Burrows (Keith Fradley) and Javaughan Parkes finished in 7th in the T37 and 8th in the T36 in times of 12.1 and 13.60 respectively.
