Iwas Juniors: Day One

Day one of the IWAS World Junior Games saw the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team make a tremendous start with a medal haul of 16, including seven golds.

It was a clean sweep in the T37/T38 100m for GB & NI with Shaun Burrows (Joseph McDonnell) taking gold in 11.68 (+3.7w), silver going to Jayden Saberton (Lee Walker) in 12.48 (+3.7) and George Fox (Derek Newton) securing bronze in 12.57 (+3.7).  Saberton followed this by going one better with a gold medal in the T37 400m in 60.53.

In the T37 100m it was a first and second for the British team with Amy Carr (Rick Betts) taking gold in 15.04 (+3.4) and 14 year old, Molly Kingsbury securing silver in 15.56 (+3.4). In the F37 long jump the positions were reversed with Molly winning the gold medal with a jump of 3.76m and Amy taking silver with 3.62m.

In the T36 100m Javaughn Parkes (Lincoln Asquith) secured gold in 13.53 (+2.7) and 15 year old Polly Maton (Colin Baross) took silver in the T46 100m.

Anna Nicholson (Claire Buckle) won gold in the F35 discus with a throw of 20.76. Amy Wareing secured a silver medal for her throw of 23.73m in the F37 discus with Millie Forrest (Robert Halliwell)  taking the bronze in the same event with a throw of 21.23m.

It was first and second for Britain in the T54 100m with Sheikh Sheikh (Jenny Archer) taking gold in 15.68 and Dillon Labrooy silver in 16.02. James Arnott (Ryan Freckleton) rounded off a very successful first day claiming gold in the T46 100m in 11.36 (+3.4) with Ryan Raghoo (Harry King) fifth in the T35 100m while Julie Rogers (Allen Adamson) came fifth in the T42 100m.

The action continues today in Stadskanaal, Holland.
