Jeanette Kwakye (coach: Michael Afilaka) has today announced her retirement from athletics.

The 30 year old reached the final of the 100m at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, where she finished sixth in a personal best of 11.14, making her the fourth fastest British woman of all time.

Kwakye is now planning to continue her work with the Youth Sports Trust and Sky Sports as well as exploring a new career in journalism.

She said: “It is with a little bit of sadness, but a huge amount of excitement that I officially announce my retirement from athletics.

“I have been very lucky to live a charmed life so far by having a great career in something that I am so passionate about.

“Of course, there were massive lows, but the highs will always outweigh them and make me smile when I think about some of the things I have been able to do.”
