Jessica Ennis-hill To Compete At Sainsbury's Birmingham Grand Prix

20 May 2015

Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill (coach: Toni Minichiello) has confirmed that she will compete at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday 7 June. The British heptathlon record holder is planning to contest both the 100m hurdles and shot put at the Alexander Stadium.

Ennis-Hill created one of the defining moments of the London 2012 Games as she won Olympic gold as part of ‘Super Saturday’ alongside British teammates Mo Farah (Alberto Salazar) and Greg Rutherford (Jonas Tawiah-Dodoo), who will also both line up at the IAAF Diamond League event.

The 29 year old recently returned to competition following nearly two years out with injury and then to give birth to her first child and is excited to return to Birmingham, where she has previously won four British titles and set a shot put personal best of 14.25m in 2011.

She said: “I am really excited to be in a position to announce my participation in the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix – I feel that my season is really beginning to take shape.

“I am loving being back competing – it is such a good feeling and I have had some incredible support from the public who have come to watch. The crowds are always amazing at the Alexander Stadium and I am hoping there will be a really good turn out on 7th June to help me along!”

In the 100m hurdles Ennis-Hill will face a strong line-up including Olympic champion and 2011 world champion Sally Pearson, current world champion Brianna Rollins of the USA, GB & NI’s reigning European champion Tiffany Porter (Rana Reider) and Lucy Hatton (Jerzy Maciukiewicz), who clinched European indoor 60m hurdles silver for GB & NI in March.
