Jo Pavey Nominated For Bbc Sports Personality Of The Year Award

25 November 2014

Jo Pavey (coach: Gavin Pavey) has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award with the ceremony to be held on Sunday 14 December in Glasgow.

After a fantastic summer which delivered European 10,000m gold and Commonwealth Games 5000m bronze, the nomination for the accolade is the icing on the cake for the 41 year old mother of two.

The Exeter athlete will return to the city where she produced a brave display to capture Commonwealth 5000m bronze in August amongst a shortlist of extremely high calibre from a number of sports. Last time round Pavey stuck with the Kenyan athletes going into the final lap and showed all of her experience to execute an inspirational piece of running to grab a surprise place on the podium; but can she get the same results in three weeks time?

A couple of weeks later she became the oldest ever winner of the European Championship 10,000m her first senior European gold medal at the age of 40 years old. The achievement captured the hearts of the nation and inspired millions who watched her triumph in Zurich on the television.

These achievements combined with her humble and modest reaction to them all has made her a worthy contender for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

You will get a chance to vote for Jo Pavey on the night of the awards ceremony by phone or online – information on how to register to vote online can be found here.
