European and Commonwealth 200m silver medallist Jodie Williams (coach: Christine Bowmaker) has opted to not to take up her place on the World Class Performance Programme after being initially named on 4x100m funding for 2015-2016.

After suffering a number of injuries over the last three years, Williams has decided to focus on her individual event as she targets a place at the Olympic Games in Rio next year.

Williams said: “I have been fortunate to have been a part of the WCPP for the last two years, which has enabled me to get on the podium on three occasions in 2014.

“However, having missed out on the last Olympics through injury and a few setbacks since then, I have made the decision to focus all my efforts into ensuring that I make individual selection for Team GB in Rio.

“I know I’ve got the full support from British Athletics, so will be continuing to work closely with them over the next 12 months.”

Performance Director, Neil Black added: “We fully respect Jodie’s decision to focus on her individual event ahead of the Olympic Games next year. She has demonstrated maturity in making a clear decision going forward and whilst she doesn’t see herself able to participate in the relay, we’ll continue to monitor her progress and support where we can.”
