Katarina Johnson-Thompson (coach: Bertrand Valcin; club: Liverpool) has been shortlisted for the IAAF’s Female World Athlete of the year.

The Liverpudlian is one of 11 female athletes nominated for the honour following what has arguably been the best season of her career to date.

Johnson-Thompson claimed her first world title in Doha with a stellar performance that saw her break Jessica Ennis-Hill’s seven-year British record, adding to her European Indoor Championship pentathlon title from Glasgow earlier in the year.

Johnson-Thompson set four personal best marks at the recent IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar, shaving two tenths off her 100m hurdles best, before adding over 70cm onto her previous shot put best on day one.

She added over a metre to her previous best in the javelin and closed off the competition with a storming 800m run that saw her take the title and the British record in the process.

Back in March, the 26-year-old added the European Indoor title to her world indoor title of 2018, improving her shot put personal best by one centimetre on her way to taking the title.

The Briton has enjoyed an unbeaten across all of her multi-event competitions over the course of the season, winning in Gotzis in May and setting a world leading mark, which she then eclipsed in Doha.

Some of those she will be up against for the honour include 400m hurdles world record holder Dalilah Muhammad (USA), world champion and world leader over 100m Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (JAM) and Brigid Kosgei (KEN), the new women’s marathon world record holder.

The winner will be announced in Monaco on Saturday, 23 November.
