JONNIE PEACOCK - BBC SPOTY CONTENDER

Two-time Paralympic and world T44 100m champion Jonnie Peacock will line up against 11 of the best sportspeople in the country on Sunday for the title of BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017.

It has been quite a year for Jonnie who claimed T44 100m world title number two at the World Para Athletics Championships in London this summer, storming to the title in the stadium where he made his name five year’s prior at the Paralympic Games.

One of the leading contenders for gold on the British team, Peacock did not disappoint cruising through his heat in a time (10.64) not too far outside the world record. He returned a couple of hours later with the expectant crowd – the biggest in the stadium throughout the championships – and millions watching at home on TV, hoping he could win a memorable gold medal.

We needn’t have worried as Jonnie swept to the title with ease, powering away from his opponents to add to the world title which he first won in Lyon back in 2013, alongside his two Paralympic titles and two European golds.

See Jonnie win his second world title here.

He contributed to the most successful British para team of the modern era, winning 39 medals in total, 18 of which were gold.

Jonnie’s 2017 did not finish there on the track. He gained further support during his time on Strictly Come Dancing where he impressed for a number of weeks, starring as Indiana Jones in a Paso Doble, to Cha-Cha-Cha-ring as a Pirate. As the first ever Paralympian to star on the popular show, Peacock has continued to excel and inspire in everything that he does.
