Canvey Islanders will no longer see Jess Judd at the bus stop.

Instead the 19-year-old will be heading to the track in her new MG3 after passing her driving test last month. In fact, Jess has become an ambassador for British Athletics’ official car supplier.

“It will be so nice to have independence and support as well,” said the Chelmsford AC athlete.

“Driving to training will be fun! I don’t like getting the bus to training as people look at you weird if you’re in running tights!”

The middle-distance runner burst onto the scene last summer, winning gold at the European Team Championships and victory at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix. The Rob Denmark coached athlete is looking to build on her encouraging debut senior season this term, and is targeting the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships.

Before that there is a date in the diary for the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix at Hampden Park.

“I’m really looking forward to the Sainsbury’s Glasgow Grand Prix. I’m really hoping to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and the event will give me a really good practice of competing in that atmosphere.

“My coach was really keen for me to do it because I can learn a lot from the stadium and if I don’t get to the Commonwealth Games, I’ll have to enjoy the event even more.”

Judd is hoping for a sell-out Hampden Park to roar her to victory.

“A home crowd is amazing. At the European Team Championships last year I never expected people to cheer me on the start line. Normally I stand there and it’s usually silent, but now there’s lots of cheers which is really strange, but I love it. I always remember the screams in the last 100m at Gateshead, and thought I had to win because I didn’t want to let anyone down.

“As soon as a crowd gets behind you, I think you always tend to run better and it makes it more exciting. When you come round that top bend, it’s amazing and I’m looking forward to see how I fare against the top athletes in the world. I’m really looking forward to being on that stage again, because I’ve missed it.”
