Kate Dennison Announces Retirement

10 October 2012

Kate Dennison has today announced her retirement from pole vault in a touching blog post on her website. The blog read as follows:

Hey Guys

So here it goes… I have decided to retire from pole vault, after nearly a 12 year career, representing my country for the last 11 years.

I am extremely proud of my achievements and have had an amazing time involved in a sport that I love.

From breaking British records on both a junior and senior level, finishing 6th place at a World Championships and European Championships to a Commonwealth bronze medal and becoming a double Olympian, which of course meant representing Team GB at a home Olympics – it has been a fantastic journey!

I know I could not have achieved any of this without the help of:

My coach Steve Rippon, who coached me from 4m to 4.60m and also Scott Simpson who coached me for the last 2 years of my career.

My physio, Rone Thompson, has held me together through injuries and helped me prevent many more.

UK lottery funding & UK athletics have supported me for many many years and my sponsors, Nike and Maximuscle.

Finally, my family and friends who have supported me through all the highs and lows.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all.

So what next?

Well I am going to start a new career in the personal training industry along side my sports massage, and public speaking. I feel I have so much to offer after so many years of looking after my body, and dealing with the ups and downs of such a competitive life style, I want to pass on all my knowledge and experience.

Any enquiries please feel free to contact myself at katedennison@ymail.com or ben.thompson@macesport.co.uk

And finally, I want to thank you all for all your support. Until next time…

Cheers

Kate x
