Walks events are enjoying a mini revival in the early months of 2008. Hot on the heels of Jo Jackson’s 20k UK record set in February, was another strong performance.

Dan King (Colchester Harriers) showed massive Beijing potential after he clocked a PB of 4:04.49 for the 50K walk on Saturday in Dudince – Slovakia – at the EAA permit meeting.

Reaching 20K in 21st place in 1:36.18 with twin brother Dominic, who went on to clock a PB 4:16.19 for 17th, Dan eventually finished in a terrific 4:04.49 for 11th place, inside the qualifying B standard for Beijing which stands at 4:07.00.

His time is the sixth best ever by a Briton and the fastest since Chris Maddocks went under four hours in 2000.
