16 July 2014

British Athletics has confirmed that World and Olympic medallist Bernard Lagat will take part in the men’s 2 mile race on The Mall at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games this weekend.

Mo Farah will remain at his training base at altitude in Font Romeu to continue with his preparations towards the Commonwealth Games.

British Athletics Chief Executive Niels de Vos said:

‘We are delighted that Bernard Lagat will headline the men’s 2 mile race at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games. This race sits alongside the men’s T54 two mile race featuring multiple Paralympic champion Dave Weir, returning to the scene of his 4th gold medal in London 2012, and the women’s mile race featuring Geneze Dibaba, world indoor champion and world record holder.

“The road events on the Mall at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games are free for the public to view, and complement the ticketed sessions in a specially constructed arena on Horse Guard’s Parade where, as on the Mall, every event features either a World, Olympic or Paralympic Champion.”
