Lauren Howarth has received a late call up for the World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz.

The Leigh Harriers athlete was selected to join the Norwich Union GB team following an additional selection meeting, which took place late last week.

Howarth, with a PB of 9.23.31 this season will join Jo Harvey in the 3000m in Poland.

Junior team leader Martin Rush said:

“At the initial selection meeting it was thought that Lauren would be able to target the Commonwealth Youth Games in order her to gain valuable experience of International competition this summer.

“Following the selection announcement we were informed that Lauren would not be able to compete at this event, and therefore in order to ensure that she did not miss out on a valuable competitive opportunity she was selected to the Norwich Union GB and NI team for the World Juniors.”
