Leeds City and Aldershot Farnham and District were the main winners at this weekend’s ERRA 12 and 6 stage road relays held at Sutton Park

Leeds held off the challenge of Notts Ac and Belgrave Harriers to win the men’s race in 4.09.40, whilst AFD were the women’s victors ahead of Chester Le Street and Winchester and District – with a time of 1.41.48.

Performance of the day went to Andy Baddeley (Harrow) who clocked the fastest time on the short leg, with a time of 13:39, ahead of Norwich Union GB&NI team representative at the World Cross Country Frank Tickner (Wells City) who managed 13:55.

The Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Saturday 26 April was another chance for some of Britain’s sprinters to race during their spell of warm weather training in the US. In the 4x100m USA versus the world event, Britain were represented by the quartet of Simeon Williamson, Mark Findlay, Andy Turner and Tyrone Edgar. The Jamaican team took the honours, beating the Americans in a time of 39.04 seconds. The British quartet was seventh in 39.96 seconds.

Andy Turner (Sale Harriers) raced for the second consecutive weekend in the 110m hurdles. He finished fourth in 14.06 seconds, into a –0.2m/s wind. Hannah England (Florida State University) won the 1 mile event at the Penn Relays in 4:40.22.

At Saturday’s Tiny Lister Classic track meet in LA, Donna Fraser (Croydon) enjoyed an early season sprint double victory, running 23.38 for 200m and 11.80 for 100m.

Amongst notable performances on home soil, Sarah Holt (Sale Harriers) launched her season with a record-breaking throw of 63.75m at the Loughborough Open on Saturday 26 April. In her first competition of the year, she broke Shirley Webb’s Under 23 best of 63.35m set in 2003.
