Great Britain and Northern Ireland’s Lis Henderson has been confirmed as a World Athletics referee under the World Athletics Referee Education and Certification System and now joins the World Athletics Referee panel at Gold Level.

UK Athletics has a long tradition of officials operating the highest level of the sport and boasts a number of high level international appointments at Championship and International events throughout 2024.

UKA are recognised as leading the way in providing high quality candidates for the World Athletics in this area, and with Lis’s appointment, there are now two British individuals operating at the Gold level as she joins the World Athletics panel for a period of eight years.

Out of over 60 candidates taking part in the process, Lis was one of the few candidates who successfully passed the exam at the highest level.

Chris Moss, UKA’s Head of Development, said: “This Is fantastic news for Lis and for UKA. From a governing body perspective, we are committed to delivering a clear and effective system of development for officials and ensuring that officials from the UK have a pathway to the very top of the sport.

“It is important to recognise and celebrate this achievement. Lis’s excellent commitment and dedication combined with years of experience gained through appointments internationally as a Technical Delegate has led to this point.

“It is also reflective of the vast knowledge and expertise that we have within the UK reinforcing the fact that British officials are the best in the world.”
