Log On And Ask Steve Backley

UK Athletics is giving aspiring athletes the opportunity to tap into the expertise of one of Britain’s most successful Olympians.

Norwich Union GB & NI Team mentor Steve Backley OBE will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice through the UK Athletics website.

Steve is one of four elite athletes on the UK Athletics and Norwich Union Mentoring programme, which was launched last summer. The programme provides current senior and junior athletes with opportunities to access additional advice and coaching, to help them prepare for major championships and life as a professional athlete.

Steve specialises in teaching fundamental movement skills using PAC training (power, agility and coordination). Since taking on his mentor role, he has been travelling across the UK coaching at a number of different training camps attended by young athletes on UK Athletics’ World Class Pathway.

As a three-times Olympic medallist, Steve is well placed to provide advice based on first-hand experience. Steve said: “My mentoring role is something I take seriously and, as a coach, I very much want to pass on my knowledge and experience to young athletes to help improve competitive advantage, develop basic skills and reduce injury problems.”

So if you’re after additional advice or have a burning question for Steve, whether its about his PAC training, challenging drills or dealing with life as a professional athlete, simply log on to this website from 28 March and submit your question by 5 April using the on-line form supplied.

Answers will be posted on the UK Athletics website from 13 April and the supplier of the best question will receive a UK Athletics goodie bag packed full of sponsor products including adidas, Original Source, Scholl and Aqua-Pura.
