Loughborough International Athletics

In two weeks’ time the annual Loughborough International Athletics Match will make a welcome return to Loughborough University. Taking place on Sunday 18 May 2014, the event will once again feature a Great Britain & Northern Ireland junior team, who will take on some of the country’s finest senior athletes.

Now in its 56th year, and the traditional curtain raiser to the outdoor season, teams from England, Scotland, Wales, British Universities and the hosts Loughborough will line-up, alongside the GB & NI junior team, in what is always a much anticipated six way fixture.

With the Commonwealth Games now less than 100 days away, athletes from all six teams will be looking to make an impression on the track and in the field, in a bid to win a place at Glasgow 2014. However for many of the GB & NI youngsters, a place on the World Junior Championship team that will travel to the USA in July is a more realistic target.

Last year’s event saw stand out performances from a number of London 2012 Olympians including Rhys Williams (coach: Malcolm Arnold), Eilidh Child (Arnold) and Perri Shakes-Drayton (Chris Zah), and this year is set to be no different.

The fixture will take place at the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Stadium on Loughborough University’s campus, a venue which is also the National Performance Institute for British Athletics. Gates will open at 10.00am, with the first event starting at 11.30am. Tickets for what is usually a sell-out match are £8 for adults, £5 for concessions, with under 12’s going free.
