27 November 2009

The UK’s largest and most successful indoor domestic athletics series, the McCain Indoor City Challenge (ICC), will return in 2009 providing high calibre competition and prizes totalling approximately £20,000.

ICC 2009 begins with semi-finals at Lee Valley, London on the 24th January, and at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield on the 8th February and concludes with the final in Cardiff on 28th February.

The competition, which caters for both top club athletes and rising GB & NI international stars, is a nationwide City Team based competition. 12 Teams from Belfast to London and Edinburgh to Bristol compete across two Semi-Finals and a Final to fight for the title of ICC Champions 2008.

Competition Manager Paul Aldridge said: "The 2009 McCain Indoor City Challenge promises to give more incentives than ever for athletes to perform at their very best during the series.

"With the addition of McCain as a series sponsor this has enabled us , amongst other things, to increase the prizes available.

"Personal and Season’s Bests will carry bonus prizes, as will setting new ICC Records or scoring the highest points for the team. Series long prize bonuses are also available, most notably the McCain ICC Golden Challenge worth £2500 and the Athlete Champion League."

Reigning champions Team Sheffield will look to continue consecutive winning form making it three in a row, while Team London North will no doubt make a play for the top spot having narrowly missed out last year.
