McConell Forced Out Of 4x400m Relay Team

22nd August 2008

Lee McConnell will not be taking part in the women’s 4x400m relay competition at the Olympic Games after she was diagnosed with a quad muscle tear in her right leg. The injury is thought to have occurred during the second round of the individual 400m. She is undergoing treatment with the Team GB medical staff.

Athletics Team Leader Dave Collins said: “It is a big disappointment for Lee. She has made a huge contribution to the success of our women’s 4x400m relay squad in recent years. She has our sympathy and as ever, UK Athletics will work closely with the athlete to assist with the her return to full fitness.” The men’s and women’s 4x400m semi finals take place tonight.
