Meadows Set For Super8

27 April 2010

World Indoor 800m Silver Medallist Jenny Meadows has led the way in confirming she will take the Manchester Team Captaincy in the 2010 Super8 competition at Scotstoun on Wednesday 7th July.

The Pocket Rocket, who used last year’s Super8 fixture in Cardiff to springboard into a successful summer culminating in World Championship 800m Bronze in Berlin, will once again toe the line for the 400m, hoping to improve on last year’s second place behind Victoria Barr.

Speaking from her warm weather training base in South Africa, Meadows told how she was looking forward to helping the newly refurbished Scotstoun Stadium bring in a new era of high class athletics in Scotland:

“I can’t wait for this year’s Super8 competition and will use the 400m opportunity to hone my preparations for the rest of the summer,” she said.

“By then the European Championships will be just three weeks away, and the chance to take in a high quality competition in the UK over one lap is great timing and I’m looking forward to a quality race – perhaps against some local opposition!”

“I’ve always had a great reception when competing in Glasgow, the Scottish crowd have helped me to wins in the last two Aviva International Matches, and I’m hoping the Scotstoun faithful can do the same for me in the outdoor arena.”

Also revealed today was the timetable of events set Super8 2010 including:

Men’s events: 100m, 110m hurdles, 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m, High Jump, Long Jump, Discus, and medley relay.

Women’s Events: 100m, 100m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 1500m, Javelin, Pole Vault, Shot, High Jump, Long Jump and Medley Relay.
