Samsung Galan, Gothenburg, SWE 2 February

Phillips Idowu (Belgrave), the world champion finished down in fifth place in a high-class event recording 16.74m in the opening round, being already 1st Pof10. The winner was world indoor silver medallist David Giralt (Cuba) who sailed out to 17.27m with his compatriots, world bronze medallist Alexis Copello runner-up with 17.01m and former two-time world silver medallist Yoandri Betanzos in third 16.98m. Sarah Claxton (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies), already 2nd Pof10, took third place in the 60m hurdles with 8.22 with Gemma Bennett (Shaftesbury Barnet), already 3rd Pof10, just behind in fourth equalling her season’s best of 8.25. Danielle Carruthers (USA) won the race 8.12. In the men’s 60m hurdles, Chris Baillie (Victoria Park City of Glasgow) set a season’s best of 7.80in his heat to go 3rd Pof10, before finishing in sixth place in the final with 7.97 behind winner Daniel Kiss (Hungary) 7.70.

Vienna Indoor International, AUT 2 February

Highlights from the meeting included Jeffrey Lawal-Balogun (Kent) finishing third over 60m in a time of 6.73 which takes him to equal 8th Pof10. Richard Kilty (Gateshead U23) took the victory over 200m and is already ranked 2nd Pof10 (21.41). In the 400m Nigel Levine (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) won his round in 47.70 to go 2nd Pof10 and Tom Druce (Channel Islands) finished in 2nd with 47.72 to claim 3rd Pof10 rankings. Paul Walker (Sale Harriers Manchester) finished third in the pole vault with a pb of 5.43m to go 3rd Pof10. Greg Rutherford (Marshall Milton Keynes) finished 2nd in the long jump with 7.82m to go 2nd Pof10. Elaine O’Neill (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) clocked 7.49 over 60m finishing second to go 7th Pof10. Maria Seager (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies) finished in fourth place in the pole vault with a pb of 4.13 to go 4th Pof10. In the 60m hurdles, Zara Hohn (Wakefield) clocked a pb of 8.22 in the 60m hurdles when finishing first to move up to 3rd Pof10.

Elan Meeting, Bratislava, SVK 31 January

A sizeable British contingent was competing at this meeting and the highlights were: Edirin Okoro (Birchfield) clocking 8.06 in the 60m hurdles for fourth place to go 8th on the Pof10 rankings this year. Kay Humbestone (Trafford) jumped a fine 1.86m in the high jump to take the victory and this moves her to 3rd on the Pof10 lists. Zara Hohn (Wakefield) clocked 8.35 in the 60m hurdles to win and goes to 5th on the Pof10 lists. Jenny Pacey (Lincoln Wellington) finished in third place in the long jump with a leap of 6.03 and is already at 6th on the Pof10 with 6.07.

DFDS Invitational, Oslo, NOR 31 January

Sally Scott (Gateshead U20) finished sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.00m and is currently equal 4th in the Pof10 rankings with 4.05m.

Loughborough University Open, Loughborough 31 January

Highlights from this meeting all came from the shot circle with Rebecca Peake (Sale Harriers Manchester) 16.48m taking her to 1st on the of Pof10 rankings. Jamie Stevenson (Newham & Essex Beagles U23) recorded 17.01m to go 3rd Pof10 while Robert Mohan (Nene Valley U20) landed the shot at 16.78m where he is already in 2nd place on the Pof10 rankings with 16.94m.
