UK Athletics is saddened to hear of the passing of Mike Leonard, a friend to many in the sport having coached for more than 30 years.
In recent times Mike was a Regional Coach and Talent Lead for Speed for England Athletics and a coach tutor for coaching qualifications. He had also previously been a national coach mentor within the National Coaching development Programme.
Mike had joined the UKA Members last December as the new Senior Coach Representative.
UKA President Jason Gardener said:
“It is with deep sadness to learn of Mike’s passing. Mike was elected the Coaches representative on the UK Athletics Members Council and his experience, kindness and passion will be a great loss for our sport.
“Mike was respected throughout our sport and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and best wishes are with his family.”
