Moira Gallagher Receives Officials Award

Moira Gallagher was presented with an award for ‘Commitment to Officials Development’ at the Sports Officials UK Awards Dinner held at Sixways Stadium in Worcester on Thursday October 31.

Gallagher, who plays an important part in developing officials through British Athletics’ Officials Education and Training Pathway, was successful in winning the award after being shortlisted alongside two other officials from the English Table Tennis Association and British Swimming.

As part of the Technical Advisory Group, Gallagher has helped to modernise officials’ education and training and helped the officials’ education pathway to gain IAAF equivalence so that British Athletics level 3 accredited officials are now equivalent to IAAF level 1.

Gallagher advocates mentoring of officials, she tutors officials at level 1, 2 and 3 and consistently helps them to progress by giving advice and guidance.

Paula Gowing, British Athletics Senior Officials Coordinator, believes that this award is well deserved. She said: “Moira has committed a huge amount of time to advancing the way our officials are educated and developed and has been vital in the modernisation that has taken place in recent years.

“She continues to be of great importance to officials and we’re delighted that her hard work and dedication has been recognised with this award.”
