National Endurance Coaching Development Day

6 February 2008

The British Milers’ Club, who team-up with UK Athletics to stage important UK Challenge meetings each summer in an effort to drive up standards, are staging the annual National Endurance Coaching Development Day at Stratford-upon-Avon High School on Sunday 24 February (9.30am).

All progressive coaches are invited to the day, which will be led by BMC President Dr Norman Poole, a highly respected coach whose athletes currently include Tom Lancashire, Michael Rimmer and three women who have broken 2 minutes at 800m.

Guest speaker Dr Ron Maughan, School of Sport and Exercise Scientist at Loughborough University, will present a practical guide to nutrition for athletic success.

For the fee of £20 to BMC members or £25 to non-members, delegates will also have the choice of three ‘event group lectures’. For 800m and 1500m coaches, Phil Banning, former Director of Coaching at the AA of Wales, will explain how to develop a progressive training plan leading to international competition. For the 5000m and 10,000m event group, former National Event Coach Dave Sunderland will discuss long-term preparation for national and major championships. For the young athletes’ event group, former international David Lowes, who is now Chairman of the BMC Young Athletes’ Academy, will advise coaches on how to bring young athletes through the age groups to success at senior level.

The closing date for bookings is 15 February.

Cheques (made payable to BMC) and choice of event group lecture should be sent to BMC Administrator, 47 Station Road, Cowley, Uxbridge, Middlesex, UB8 3AB.
