This weekend’s first indoor event of the 2009 UK athletics season witnesses the launch of a new partnership between UKA, the national governing body for athletics, and Lucozade Sport, the leaders in safe sports nutrition, offering a range of safe and effective sports nutrition products to elite athletes performing at the highest level.

Lucozade Sport, the first official sports nutrition supplier to UKA, will supply an extensive range of contaminant-tested sports nutrition products and support services to athletes at leading international events, High Performance Athletics Centres (HiPACs), and throughout the network of Clubs in the UK. The support will play an integral role in the preparation, performance and recovery of all athletes from training sessions and competitions.

UKA identified the need to address the nutritional and contamination concerns of elite athletes, and actively sought a credible sports nutrition partner. Lucozade Sport is uniquely placed to actively address these issues due to their heritage in sporting performance and ability to ensure peace of mind among athletes through the provision of high quality sports nutrition products that are tested by an independent laboratory for contaminants prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The long-term partnership will run for an initial four year period, up to and past the London 2012 Olympics. The team of sports scientists at Lucozade Sport will work closely with the athletes and the UKA performance team to provide sports science education to each of the UK’s HiPACs as well as key events in the athletics calendar, including the six UK Athletics Major Events. In addition, athletes of all abilities will benefit from education and support offered to clubs throughout the extensive club and membership network in the UK.
