New Year’s Action Around The UK

2 January 2008

Former Olympian Colin Kirkham, his family and Coventry Godiva club mates again spent New Year’s Day organising a 5 mile road race that attracted 200 finishers around campus paths at the University of Warwick.

Ben Jones, coached at Godiva by Dave Dix, led all the way and won in 24:55 while Gemma Miles (Kendal AC), coached by UK Athletics Endurance Management Group Chair Bob Ashwood, led home a high quality women’s contingent, crossing the line seventh overall in 27:02. She was followed by fellow GB internationals Tina Brown (also Godiva) in 27:23 and Sue Harrison (Leamington) in 28:47. Full results can be found at Godiva

Samater Farah (Newham and Essex Beagles), who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Christmas Day, won Serpentine RC’s New Year’s Day 10km in 32:32 in London’s Hyde Park. For details, please click on Serpentine
