News From The Norwich Union GB & NI Preparation Camp (Day 3)

While the second wave of the 56 strong GB&NI team have arrived at the Norwich Union Preparation Camp, the first wave have begun to acclimatise to the humid weather conditions and recover their sleep patterns.

Despite several downpours today athletes are getting used to all the facilities and have begun to settle into their routines.

400m Hurdler Natasha Danvers-Smith explained why she thought the preparation camp is so important to athletes.

“I’m so thankful that we come out early to a preparation camp, as it’s all about adapting – mentally and physically,” she said.

“It’s all about the Championships now. It’s all about the event. Being here in these relaxing surroundings allows us to train, to eat right and to focus on nothing but Osaka.

“If you were back home there would be too many distractions and complications, but here everything is structured so well that all you have to do is concentrate on competing and getting ready to compete.”

As well as being impressed by the team hotel – which will be the British Olympic Association base for the pre-Beijing holding camp next year – Danvers-Smith praised the full support team of coaches, doctors, physiotherapists, massage therapists and management staff who work closely with each athlete

“This is a great hotel with all the facilities we need and the help and support we get is perfect – from the support staff, to the food, medical team and even our hydration levels.

“Everything is being watched and measured and it’s gives us the best possible way to prepare.”
