Nominations Revealed For Sports Officials Uk Awards

Six athletics Officials have been nominated for the annual Sports Officials UK Awards which will take place on 25th October 2017.

Robert Stevenson MBE has been nominated for the Lifetime Achievement award at the ceremony after years of dedicated service to officiating in the UK. Predominantly a timekeeper, ‘Stevie’ is also Vice President of the Irish Schools Athletics Association and has contributed greatly to the organisation of sport at that level in Ireland, as well as further afield with his involvement in the Schools International set up.

Linda Turner became the first female Chair of the UK Athletics Technical Advisory Group earlier this year, and with her appointment as Competition Director for the hugely successful World Para Athletics Championships London 2017, she also acted as Track Referee for the IAAF World Championships in August. As a result, Turner has been shortlisted for Performance Official of the Year.

19 year-old Lucy Rogers, who acted as a starter’s assistant and participated as a member of the call room for both world championships this summer, is listed for the Young Official of the Year.

Elsewhere, Steve Marshall is nominated for Officials Developer of the Year whilst Gordon Staines is up for the Coach / Mentor Award. For her work in the Humberside region, Lesley Eldridge is one of the contenders for the Community Official of the Year.
