Officials Conference 2018 Preview

Sunday 8th April will see the 15th annual British Athletics Officials Conference take place at Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, with the theme for this year’s event ‘Achieving our Best Performance’.

The Conference will run from 10am – 4:30pm and will see around 250 officials in attendance, offering them an array of workshops and talks on officiating in line with the message of the afternoon of performing at their best.

This year’s conference will also see Olympic bronze medallist Goldie Sayers deliver the keynote speech, following in the footsteps of Robbie Grabarz at last year’s event.

Olympic silver medallist from Atlanta 1996 in the 4x400m relay and three-time Commonwealth Games medallist Iwan Thomas will provide the opening address.

Following on from the success of last year’s conference, the workshops have once again been tailored to suit those in attendance.

Topics to be discussed within selected workshops include Conflict Management, Clean Athletics, Making Difficult Decisions Under Pressure and Disability Track & Field, amongst others.

There will also be a series of awards presented to recognise officials. They include Long Service awards for those who have made a contribution to athletics for more than 40 years, and the David Littlewood award, presented in memory of former official David Littlewood MBE, recognising an official under the age of 35 who has shown great promise in the sport.

Officials from various disciplines and of all levels come together from all over the country, providing a great opportunity to network within athletics and also discuss a range of topics from within the sport.
