Christine Ohuruogu is the latest big name athlete to announce her participation at the Aviva London Grand Prix just two weeks before this year’s Olympic Games.

Ohuruogu the world and Commonwealth champion will race in the 400m on the Friday of the two day meeting at Crystal Palace on the 25th and 26th July.

Ohuruogu narrowly beat fellow GB athlete Nicola Sanders to the world title last year and fancies her chances of claiming an Olympic medal in August.

Ohuruogu said: “I know that it was the tiniest of margins last year that meant I was the World champion but the margins are small in my field. Nothing will prepare me better for Beijing than a warm-up at the Aviva London Grand Prix in front of a home crowd.”

Ohuruogu’s announcement adds another big star name to the event which also sees world sprint champion Tyson Gay face Asafa Powell.

This year will be the first since 1985 that the event has run over two days and it is expected to attract the strongest field anywhere in the world this summer outside of the Olympic Games.
