Two of the world’s very best pole vaulters, Katerina Stefanidi (GRE) and Holly Bradshaw (GBR) have today been confirmed to compete at Arena Birmingham in February at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham.

Taking place on Saturday 16th February, the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham is the world’s number one ranked indoor athletics event, with the star pole vaulting duo being just two of many world leading athletics stars that fans will get the chance to see go head to head at Arena Birmingham.

Sure to be the event favourite based on the incredible medal haul she now holds, Olympic, world and European champion Stefanidi rose to prominence in 2016 with gold in Rio, with 2017 then seeing her go unbeaten all year alongside world gold and a Greek national record vault of 4.91m.

The reigning European champion will be hoping for a winning performance in Birmingham next February following her bronze at the IAAF World Indoor Championships at the Arena Birmingham back in March of this year.

Confirmed alongside Stefanidi, 10-time British champion Holly Bradshaw (coach: Scott Simpson, club: Blackburn Harriers) enjoyed her most successful year in 2018 which saw her first international outdoor medal with bronze at the European Championships, with the world-leading Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham serving as a key meeting for the 27-year-old

Ahead of competing in Birmingham, Holly Bradshaw said:

“After what was a really satisfactory 2018, I’m more motivated than ever to keep the momentum going in 2019 and the perfect way to start that is at the Müller Indoor Grand Prix Birmingham against some of the best in the world.

“I thrive on competing against the likes of the very best such as Kat [Stefanidi] as being up against the top girls can only help to bring out the very best in me. Though it will be an incredibly tough competition, what I do know is that competing in front of a home crowd here in Birmingham will give me an added boost and hopefully spur me on to a really strong performance.”

The Müller Indoor Grand Prix has seen some memorable and famous performances in recent years from British stars such as Sir Mo Farah, Dina Asher-Smith, Laura Muir, with the prospect of more memorable world-class moments in February to come for the Birmingham crowds.

Olympic, world and European champion, Katerina Stefanidi commented:

“I always absolutely love competing in the UK, especially at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix, as not only do the British fans make a great atmosphere but I also know that the fields are always built to be incredibly strong which means every athlete is excited and motivated to achieve the best possible performance.”

“2018 was a big year for our sport and the pole vault as an event with some strong results across the men’s and women’s competitions, so it’s a really exciting time for the event and I really hope I can be at the fore when it comes to pushing the women’s field on to literal new heights!”
