Oslo Diamond League Preview

9 June 2016

Oslo’s illustrious Bisslett Stadium will play host to seven British athletes in this evening’s IAAF Diamond League meet, including world long jump silver medallist Shara Proctor (coach: Rana Reider) and European 100m hurdles champion Tiffany Porter (Reider).

Proctor has the second furthest personal best in the field after her stunning 7.07m British record in the world final last year. It earned her silver on that occasion, and she will face a similarly stacked line-up in Norway. She takes on Tianna Bartloletta (USA), her conqueror in Beijing last summer, as well as Serbia’s Ivana Spanovic (SER) who leads the women’s long jump Diamond Race so far.

Also, Porter will compete against some of the world’s best 100m hurdlers, including Olympic champion Sally Pearson (AUS) and 2013’s world champion Brianna Rollins (USA).

The women’s 200m will see Jodie Williams (Ryan Freckleton) aim to pick up her first Diamond Race points of the outdoor season, as the 23 year-old takes on the fastest woman in Europe, Dafne Schippers (NED), and World Championships silver-medallist Elaine Thompson (JAM).

Anyika Onuora (Reider) will be hoping for more of the same as she enters a highly-competitive 400m field on the back of a season’s best in Birmingham last weekend.

Eugene’s Diamond League meeting saw Charlie Grice (Jon Bigg) set a new personal best in the National Mile race as he stopped the clock at 3:52.64, a feat he’ll hope to revise once again as he tackles the Dream Mile against a stacked international field.

Having come within two-hundredths of a second to breaking her 800m record last week in Montbéliard, Scotland’s Laura Muir (Andy Young) will be hoping the final event of the evening, the women’s Dream Mile, will provide her with an equally encouraging result. Muir will be joined by fellow compatriot Jenny Meadows (Trevor Painter), who will be stepping up from her usually-run 800m.
