OVER 20 BRITISH ATHLETES SET FOR NOTTWIL TEST

Starting from Thursday, over 20 British athletes will be competing at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix Nottwill (26-28) and the Daniela Jutzeler Memorial (29) in the Swiss town of Nottwil, in an event which is one of the highlights in the para athletics calendar.

A number of Paralympic medallists will be in action over the four days, including a high number of wheelchair racers who traditionally thrive on the track at the venue.

Seven-time Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft (coach: Jenni Banks, club: Leeds), fresh from victory at the Muller Birmingham Diamond League last Saturday, will compete in the T34 100m and 800m in Nottwil, with European champion Fabienne Andre (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) also lining up against her in those races.

Six-time Paralympic champion David Weir (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) will go in the T54 800m, 1500m and 5000m during the first three days of competition in Switzerland. In the 800m and 1500m he’ll be joined by fellow Paralympians Richard Chiassaro (Jenni Banks, Harlow), Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins, Kirkby) – relay silver medallist in Tokyo – and Daniel Sidbury (Christine Parsloe, Sutton & District). The latter trio will also contest the 400m.

Tokyo champion Andrew Small (Rick Hoskins, Stockport) has a busy schedule lined up as he tackles the T33 100m, 200m, 4000m and 800m, and will be joined by Tokyo Paralympian, James Freeman (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) in all of those races except the 200m.

After winning two medals in Tokyo last year, and with an eye on competing for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Sammi Kinghorn (Rodger Harkins, Red Star) will go in the 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m. Fellow Scottish athlete Melanie Woods (Rodger Harkins, Red Star) also goes in the same events in the T54 classification, as does Eden Rainbow-Cooper (Jenny Archer, Weir Archer Academy) – also the 200m – fresh from her victory at the Great Manchester 10km on Sunday.
